Here's a pretty good deal off what, for most people, would be considered non-discretionary expenditure.

My last post about Singtel Dash was about their 5% cashback on overseas transactions, which as a reminder, is still valid until the end of June 2019.

This time, arguably a better deal because it probably caters to a larger Singaporean audience.

In a nutshell:

  • Pay for your transport rides (bus/train) using Singtel Dash via your phone (NFC) and get 50% cashback
  • Cashback is capped at $10 per month
  • Deal is valid until 31 July 2019 - that means you can get a maximum of $20 cashback from this. $10 in June, and $10 in July.
  • Cashback will be credited within 10 days from the date of transaction
  • Limited to the first 10000 users
    • How do you know if you're one of the first 10000 users?
    • Does this refer to first 10000 to use the function at least just once?
    • Or, alternatively, does it refer to the first 10000 that meet $10 cashback in the first month, or in the second month?
    • Conclusion: This is a little unclear, but in all honesty, it's one of those clauses that will forever be hard to measure. It's not like they're going to have a live counter set up for you to see how many users have used this deal.

I have yet to try this myself, but I presume the same restriction applies as when paying using Singtel Dash via NFC. That is, just because your device has NFC doesn't mean you can use it for Singtel Dash via NFC. As to why it has been set up this way, I do not know. Read the bottom of this post to find out more about my experience in discovering that not all NFCs are made the same!

Finding discounts on non-discretionary spending is not that easy. Finding discounts on public transport in Singapore, in particular, has also not been easy. It's not like Sydney where you can buy discounted Woolies eGift Cards and use it to top up your Opal Card. It's for this reason that when I became aware of this deal, I was pretty excited!

Gonna try use this deal very soon...!
